Vaugeois calls on MPP Kevin Holland to meet with OPSEU workers

THUNDER BAY – Ontario NDP MPP Lise Vaugeois (Thunder Bay – Superior North) is calling on Thunder Bay – Atikokan MPP Kevin Holland to formally apologize for hitting an OPSEU Local 740 worker with his car:

“This is deeply disturbing,” said Vaugeois.

“Kevin Holland has had four weeks to visit these workers on the picket line and advocate on their behalf with Ford. Instead, he tried to drive through their legal information picket outside of Ford’s $1,000 a plate, pay-to-play fundraiser and struck an OPSEU member. He should be supporting these workers who have been fighting for a living wage, not hitting them with his car.

“OPSEU workers across Ontario are on the line fighting for meaningful investments in social services and a fair deal. Doug Ford claims that this is not a government funding issue. He is wrong. The agencies do not have the funds to pay these workers fairly.

“MPP Kevin Holland should apologize to the OPSEU workers, but more importantly he should commit to meaningfully supporting these workers to come to a fair deal after the Ford government’s Bill 124 suppressed wages and contributed to the chronic underfunding of core public services.”
