Survey confirms physical distancing impossible if classes not capped: NDP

QUEEN'S PARK – NDP Education critic Marit Stiles said the Ford government must take seriously the troubling results of a People for Education report released Tuesday, which shows 72 per cent of Ontario principals say ensuring physical distancing in schools has been their biggest pandemic challenge to date:

"The People for Education survey paints a bleak picture of overworked school leaders constantly struggling to keep students physically distanced.

The Ford government needs to stop ignoring educators who are telling us physical distancing simply isn't possible with classes of 25 to 30 students. If the goal is to keep schools safely open long-term, why are we still seeing 30 kids crammed into classrooms?

The NDP has been proposing a cap class of 15, and we’re going to keep pushing for that solution to stop the spread."
