TORONTO – Ontario NDP Leader, Marit Stiles is ready to make life better for the communities of Milton and Lambton-Kent-Middlesex in the upcoming May 2 by-election, and proud to work alongside local champions Edie Strachan (NDP candidate for Milton), and Kathryn Shailer (NDP candidate for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex).
“From Brooke-Alvinston to Milton, life is harder after 6 years of Doug Ford and the Conservatives”, said Stiles. “Instead of putting people first, Ford wasted time and money helping the wealthy and well connected get ahead and is lurching from one scandal to another.
“By electing Edie Strachan in Milton, and Kathryn Shailer in Lambton—Kent—Middlesex, we can put the focus back where it belongs – on people,” said Stiles. “New Democrats will fight for better public healthcare that’s there when you need it, homes you can afford, and solutions that will make life a little easier.”
“Every day at the doors, I’ve been hearing about how the things we used to take for granted in Ontario are slipping away,” said Shailer. “We need affordable housing and better health care more than ever. I’m proud to be an advocate for strong rural communities here at home and right across Ontario.”

Meet Kathryn Shailer
Kathryn calls Alvinston and Central Lambton home, where she is a driving force for positive change in her community: supporting local arts and culture programs, contributing to local heritage recognition, and helping set up community meal programs. Building on extensive leadership experience - first in the credit union sector and then in post-secondary education - Kathryn is now stepping up to make life better for people in Lambton—Kent—Middlesex.
Meet Edie Strachan
For 20 years, Edie Strachan has been a fierce community advocate and public sector worker in Milton, who has dedicated herself to community work through Community Development Halton, Occupational Health Clinics for Ontario Workers, the Oakville and District Labour Council, and most recently, the Ontario Public Service Employees Union. Edie is not just a candidate and a champion for Milton workers - she’s a neighbor who is driven by a belief in a better province. She believes in a Milton where everyone has a fair chance at a good life – and knows we can get there together.
